This is the first adult-sized sweater I’ve ever knit. And because I couldn’t find a pattern that was just right (easy with a smart vintage look), I made it up myself!! I mean, that’s what one does when one doesn’t want to do anything too difficult, right? Thankfully, my winging it didn’t end in ruin. I am quite pleased with it and wanted to share my pattern!
I am apologizing in advance because I only have it written in ONE size. This is because I really do not trust myself to correctly calculate different sizes! If you
are brave, though, you should be able to figure out how many stitches to subtract or add to get it to fit you.
Also, this isn’t a very “fitted” cardigan. It’s a bit blousy on me, so it could fit someone slightly larger.
ALSO–knit pattern writing is not my calling. Hopefully it’s not too confusing, but if it is, please feel free to ask questions and I’ll try to help!
Without further ado, here are the instructions:
Vintage-Inspired Cropped Cardigan by Leanne
Measurements when laid flat, un-stretched: Bust: 38″ / Waistband: 29″ (with a lot of stretch in it) / Length from shoulder seam to bottom hem: 19″
Materials needed:
US 5 needles
US 7 needles
Upholstery needle
yarn: 803 yds / 740 m of medium/worsted/size 4 (This is an approximate number. I used 4 skeins of Vintage by Berroco and had about half of one skein left over. You should be pretty safe with the amount given.)
6 – 3/4″ or 5/8″ buttons
Gauge: 20 sts/27 rows = 4″ [10 cm] on US 7 [4.5 mm] needles.
(note: I am one of those who stubbornly refuse to acknowledge the importance of gauge, and this pattern proves I’m right! 🙂 Hehe, well, sort of. My gauge ended up varying quite a bit but it does not affect this piece much because of its blouse-y nature, so do not stress about it too much.)
