I’ve been dreaming about this little number for a while now–and it is finally a reality!!  I love bobbles, and this quirky hat is covered in them.  A little traditional, a little modern, inspired by new life and buds in the spring and St. Patty’s Day.

Irish Eyes Beret by Leanne

Materials Needed:

Cascade 220 (Color: 2438, Spring Meadow)
US 5 double pointed needles
US 7 double pointed needles
US 7 circular 16″ needles
Tapestry needle

Abbreviations:

CO= cast on
sts=stitches
k= knit
m1 = (make one):  knit into front of the stitch as usual, keeping the original stitch on the left needle; then knit into the back of the stitch, and slide stitch off the needle.
mb= make bobble:  m1, m1; (turn work, k4) three times; (turn work, k2tog) twice.
ssk= slip, slip, knit: slip one stitch knitwise, slip the next stitch purlwise, then knit the two slipped stitches together
k2tog=knit two stitches together

Instructions:

With US5 double pointed needles, CO 88 sts
Work 1 x 1 rib for 10 rounds.

Switch to US7 circulars:
Next round:  k1, m1, repeat (total 132 sts)
Knit 3 rounds.
Next round: *k10, mb, repeat from *

Knit 5 rounds.
Next round: k4, mb, *k10, mb, repeat from *, end k6
Knit 5 rounds.
Next round: *k10, mb, repeat from *
Knit 5 rounds.
Next round: k4, mb, *k10, mb, repeat from *, end k6
Next round: *k10, ssk, repeat from *
Next round: knit
Next round: *k9, ssk, repeat from *
Next round: knit
Next round: *k8, ssk, repeat from *
Next round: *mb, k7, repeat from *
Next round: *k7, ssk, repeat from *
Next round: knit
Next round: *k6, ssk, repeat from *

Cut yarn leaving a long tail; draw yarn through remaining stitches.  Use long tail to attach pompom if desired.  Weave in ends.
